Robert E. Mangurian is an internationally recognized architect currently registered and working in Los Angeles, with an architectural degree from the University of California at Berkeley, 1967. He is a founding member of STUDIO WORKS Architects where he has served as a Principal since 1969.
In addition to the primary endeavor as Principal-in-Charge of Studio Works Architects, Mr. Mangurian has also served as the Director of the Graduate Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture from 1987-1997. Additionally, in the first stages of the new J.Paul Getty Museum and Center project, Mr. Mangurian was invited as a consultant to establish state of the art three-dimensional modelling facilities for the $750 million dollar project.
Mr. Mangurian and STUDIO WORKS have successfully designed and constructed numerous on-time and on-budget buildings across the greater Los Angeles region as well as nationally. This work has been widely published and honored with prestigious awards.
Among Robert Mangurian's significant projects are the Milwaukee Montessori School of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Grand Center Master Plan for the City of St. Louis and Grand Center, Inc., St. Louis, Missouri, a Plan for Santa Monica Boulevard for the City of West Hollywood, Programming and Planning for the University of Southern California School of Music, Casa per Anziani in Ronciglione, Italy, Venice Interarts Center in Venice, California, Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, California, Market Street Gallery in Venice, California, the Creative Playthings Store which received the New York City Bard Award, the Children's Learning Center Brooklyn, NY- recognized for its excellence in a Federal Government study which found it to be the most exemplary center in the country, and the acclaimed (by Conde-Nast Traveler Magazine and others as 'a silent masterpiece') South Side Settlement Community Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Most recently, the Rose and Alex Pilibos School in Hollywood, and two new facilities for the Los Angeles Unified School District- Marshall Primary Center and Central L.A. Area High School #2 (one of the largest new schools in Los Angeles) have received appreciation from their clients and in the popular press (Los Angeles Times, Cover of Calendar Section) as being inspiring, state of the art, 21st Century buildings for education.
In
2002, the two partners of the firm, Robert Mangurian and Mary-Ann Ray were
awarded the prestigious Chrysler
Design Award for Innovation and Excellence as exemplified in an ongoing
body of work in a design field.
