This is a design for the then president of A+M Records for a residence and associated gardens above Sunset Strip in the Hollywood Hills. The home and site development are configured to achieve maximum use of the hillside site and spectacular view of the Los Angeles basin. The project attempts to establish a slippage between architecture and land, hopefully yielding ‘built land’ and ‘topographic building’. In addition, while the language of the house is geometrically founded and employs complex geometrical relationships, the material language attempted to produce discontinuities between space to space and within spaces - one room lined with graphite, the next with chalk white plaster, etc.. "This submission shows a rigor, a commitment, a discipline, and an independence of thought that make it really elegant, and clearly move it beyond any of the projects we've seen (Progressive Architecture Design Award Jury).
